EnChroma Colour Blind Glasses at Look Eyecare in Bradford: Try Them Before You Buy

Look Eyecare is now an authorized EnChroma retailer. If you or someone you know has red-green colour blindness, you can come in and try the glasses here in Bradford before you spend anything.

What EnChroma glasses do

Most red-green colour blindness comes from the red and green cones in the eye responding to light too similarly. The two signals overlap, so reds, greens, oranges and browns can look alike. EnChroma lenses filter out the specific wavelengths where that overlap happens. That gives your eyes a cleaner difference between red and green, and colours tend to look more distinct and more saturated.

About 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women have some form of colour vision deficiency, so this affects a lot of people.

What they don't do

They don't cure colour blindness, and they don't give you "normal" colour vision. They won't work for everyone, and they are not designed for people who have blue-yellow deficiency or see no colour at all. Results vary from person to person. We'd rather tell you that now than have you find out after buying.

Why you should try them in person first

How much EnChroma helps depends on the type and severity of your colour vision deficiency, and two people with the same diagnosis can react quite differently. Nobody can promise you the result from a product page. The only way to know is to put them on and look at things you actually care about.

That is why we do it this way:

1. Colour vision test. It takes about 5 minutes. EnChroma provides it for eyecare professionals, and it shows what type of deficiency you have and whether the glasses are likely to help. It is a screening tool, not a full diagnosis.

2. Try them on. We keep EnChroma sample frames in the shop. If the test suggests the glasses could work for you, you wear a pair for 20 to 30 minutes. EnChroma makes lenses for different conditions, so we can see which version suits you.

3. Take them for a walk. Step outside, look at trees, traffic lights, brick, flowers. Bring a partner or a friend if you like. Some people use the trial to see what a date night looks like.

You decide after that. There is no pressure to buy.

Buying here compared with other options

You can buy colour-correcting glasses online, and you will find a wide price range. The difference is what you get along with the glasses.

When you order online, you are choosing a lens type and a frame from photos, and you find out whether it works after the box arrives. When you buy here, you take a test, you try a pair, and you decide with real information. If the glasses are not going to help you, we will tell you before you pay.

You also get someone who can fit the frames properly. A pair that sits too low or slides down your nose gives you a worse result than the same lenses fitted well.

A general optical retailer may or may not carry EnChroma, and may not have a test and sample frames ready. We do, and trying them with us costs nothing.

Made with your prescription

If you wear glasses already, you don't have to choose between seeing clearly and seeing colour better. We can make EnChroma glasses with your prescription. Bring your current prescription, or book an eye exam with us if yours is out of date, and we will go over the options with you.

Who this is for

Adults who have always wondered what they're missing. Parents of kids who struggle with colour-coded schoolwork. People whose job or hobby involves colour, like cooking, driving, electrical work, painting or gardening. And anyone who has been told "that's red, not brown" a few too many times.
